Change In Time was a commission undertaken as part of a housing development scheme for Chelmer Housing Association in Chelmsford Essex, working with architects Ingleton Woods of Norwich. Designed as a functioning sundial and sculptural feature, the form of the design was taken from a very distinctive road layout from the surrounding estate, being one of the very first post war estates built in the 1950’s. The outline of this shape was repeated and rotated at a reducing scale, to create what is overall a very unusual and distinctive form. The Chameleon Rockpanel changes colour depending upon the angle and brightness of light, appearing a myriad of hues from green to pink and grey.
The greatest challenge of the job was learning the science and math concerned with creating a functioning sundial, taking various readings and measurements from the location, to ensure the final result would be as close to accurate as I could achieve with my limited experience.
