I have been fascinated by the works of Naum Gabo ever since coming across a book on him in my (very limited) college library. The symmetry and use of contemporary materials applied in many of his geometric abstraction forms were so different and almost spell binding for me at the time…and to be fair, still are.

The first successful sculpture design I developed that was very obviously influenced and even developed from the works of Gabo was ‘Orchid’, which looked at spherical forms. After this I started exploring other shapes that could be manipulated in the same kind of way and started looking at teardrop forms. The resulting shape of Ascension has a really enjoyable sense of weight and balance about it, with the intricate network of micro wires acting as a beautiful focal point. I love the flowing curves of the outer form, which are bisected with the wires at the centre of this highly aesthetic contemporary sculpture.

With the intricacy of the wires, this sculpture is most suited for indoor display, although all the materials and finishes are durable enough to be displayed outside.
