Focused was an experiment in perspective. As with all of my early cast bronze works made between 2006 – 2015, string was applied within a frame to create straight lines that wax could be layered onto and built up to make a solid surface. This principal was applied for this sculpture, using two matching but different profiles of a face at two very different scales. With these faces opposing one another and fixed within a cubed frame, I stretched string from a series of holes around the faces profile, from one side to another. The result was incredibly enjoyable and created a almost tunnel like perspective through the strings. Wax was then built up and smoothed out to make the form solid, with the underside of the surface still having the straight lines of the string exposed to reveal the sculptures process. Once solid, the wax form was cut away from the frame and could then have a mold taken from it and then in turn a cast bronze made from the resulting mold.
Focused is a limited edition of 9 and is suitable for interior or exterior display, but requires maintenance to upkeep the patina outdoors.
