Singularity was designed for a exhibition at Coughton Court as part of a group sculpture trail. Knowing that the location for this piece was going to be in a flower bed, where during the height of the growing season, the plants can grown very tall. I wanted to make a small Vortex design, but wanted to use a plinth to raise the sculpture above the flowers. The resulting sculpture took on a entirely different appearance, working incredibly well at this scale mounted on a plinth. So I decided it deserved to be re-named as a entirely new sculpture.
As with the Vortex design, this form is a experiment in the aesthetic qualities that can be achieved by exploring simple ratio’s, repetition and fractals. The principles of Fibonacci were followed in the creation of this sculpture and as a result the simplicity of the form creates a very beautiful and eye catching quality.
